f the many hats Victor Basa wears these days, that of an actor gives him a different kind of high.
“Acting challenges my ability to give justice to every character I portray,” Victor says. “It takes a lot of effort physically, mentally and emotionally since you must immerse yourself in a character totally different from the real you.”
Indeed, Victor is now playing roles very different from the ones he played in the fashion scene where he used to catwalk.
“Even when I was not in showbiz yet, I was fond of watching movies and always imagined myself doing dramatic acting. Now that I'm here, I really exert much effort,” Victor relates.
These efforts are paying off. Since he became part of the Kapamilya network as Star Magic talent, Victor's hands are always full with projects — be they in hosting or acting.
Victor starred with Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano on the teleserye Crazy for You. He is Stick on Abt Ur Luv every Saturday with Carla Humphries as his love interest. Playing Miguel the probinsyano is what also Victor does weeknights on Walang Kapalit.
Victor is one of the MTV VJs who update viewers about the latest in music. He also co-hosts Wazzup, Wazzup with Toni. On Sundays, televiewers regularly see him on ASAP '07.
“I'm thankful with what I have right now. I will never cease showing what I can do,” Victor says.
In fact, he tried his luck acting on the big screen. He underwent an acting test for a movie under Star Cinema.
But it doesn't mean Victor is losing patience waiting for a film project to come his way. He is just using his free time productively.
His hobby, ice hockey, is the only thing that keeps him away from work. After training under a European coach, Victor joined an ice hockey competition in the US . That's why he glided with ease at the recent Stars on Ice competition and won with partner Bernice Enciso.
Aside from the TV exposures, Victor also designs clothes for Penshoppe and walks down the ramp once in awhile.
And if you think the guy is splurging his earnings on material things, Victor knows how to spend them wisely.
He describes himself as frugal, since Victor keeps all the fruits of his labor in the bank. He is proud to say he can run the house he shares with a younger brother without asking too much help from a sister working in the US .
“I just spend what is needed,” Victor states. “I'm saving for a rainy day. No one knows what's gonna happen next.”
That is why, Victor, who turned 22 last June 6, also plans to continue his studies. He was in college taking up Computer Science at De La Salle University when the showbiz bug bit him.
“My first appearance was on the cover of Pink magazine with Nikki Gil. Then I did a TVC for Greenwich before I get to act on TV,” Victor relates.
On July 20, Victor will be at SM Iloilo. This time he will don another hat — that of a singer.
Victor only proves that those born under the Gemini sign are gifted with many talents.
