HE loudest whisper in the politics these days is that Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Star For All Seasons Lipa Mayor Vilma Santos will be running for senator. Are they playing it by ear? For the nth time, Sharon said she isn't interested in running as mayor in Pasay City where her father, the late Pablo Cuneta reigned as mayor for the longest time ever.
To our mind, Mayor Vi had an earlier pronouncement that she will not run for mayor of Lipa City but look, she ran and won and had served three terms with pride and honor.
If Sharon is not running for mayor of Pasay , people are asking why is it then that she went back to school (University of the Philippines )? We remember Ate Vi before she finally decided to join the political fray, had also took some courses in public administration. Or, if Sharon is not really running for mayor, could she be running for senator?
At the moment, there is no confirmation yet if the Megastar and Mayor Vi are really running for senator. All are pure speculations from different sectors.
But should they decide to do it, majority say they're going to win. Hands down.

DIETHER TO SURPRISE PAULEEN ON DEBUT?
ON November 10, Pauleen Luna turns 18. She says nothing will change after her debut which will be held at the North Greenhills Social Hall. She will remain a dutiful daughter who listens and abides by her parents' advice. That means, no serious boyfriend yet?
On the debut night, there will be the traditional 18 candles and 18 roses. The first dance will be with Tito Sen (Tito Sotto) while the last will be with her father, Eugenio Luna. Rumored boyfriend Marvin Agustin will have the second to the last dance, then followed by Pauleen's brothers and friends from and out of showbiz.
Colleagues from Eat Bulaga will play important roles in Pauleen's debut. Will Diether Ocampo spring a surprise if only to return Pauleen's gesture of posing as cover of Uno Magazine of which Diet is treasurer? The biggest question is, will Diet's wife (or, ex?), Kristine Hermosa, who figured in a not- so-pleasant word war with Pauleen, agree?

75 FILMS AT CINEMANILA
DON'T miss the varied film fare offered by the ongoing Cinemanila International Filmfest that offers 75 full length films from 35 countries under the sections World Cinema, Young Cinema, Digital Lokal, Philippine Panorama and Sineng Pambata, up to November 15 at various SM Cinemas. Mr. Christian Jeune, Director of the Film Department and Deputy Artistic Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival will be the Chairman of the Jury in the Digital Lokal Competition. Mr. Jeune is responsible for Cannes' international relations with producers, directors, and film commissions. He recommends films for Competition, Un Certain Regard, Cinefondation, and the Shorts Competition. He has translated more than 100 English films into French.
Mr. Jeune's involvement in Cinemanila this year is proof of the importance given to the country by the international film community in general, and the dynamic digital film revolution in particular- effectively reinventing the landscape of current Philippine cinema and helping it regain its respectability once solidly held in the days of Brocka, Bernal and De Leon.
Last year's harvest of Digital Lokal films proved to be an enviable crop of critically acclaimed films, many of which still get invitations and honors from various international film festivals: “Ala Verde Ala Pobre” (Rome filmfest, and winner of best actress award for Ana Capri in Golden Screen Awards), “Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong” (San Sebastian filmfest- Special Mention) and ‘Tuli' (Sundance 2007). The awards night is slated on November 9.
